3 form expansion

Here is a timeline of the proposed expansion of our school, in line with West Sussex County Council’s planned increase in school places. This means we will accept 90 children in three classes each September, growing to 630 pupils on roll by 2021.

Feb/March 2015 – conversations were held with the Local Authority about providing an additional class of children in September 2015 to help with increased pupil numbers

April – places were allocated for September and the building alterations were drawn up

May – a costed feasibility study for permanent expansion to 3 forms of entry was completed by the Local Authority

June – final building drawings were agreed for September 2015, including removal of the hut and an additional classroom being built for September 2016

July – the Local Authority commenced its own public consultation, comprising 12 school expansion projects across the south of the county

August – building alterations completed ready for the new intake of 90 children

September – parents invited to contribute to Q&A document

October – the County Council makes its decision to fund our planned expansion to 3 form entry and we will be accepting 90 children per year from September 2016

November/December – planning application issued for the additional Year 1 classroom

January 2016 – Early Years outdoor area completed

February – Westridge contractors appointed for new KS2 building and the planning process begins. New Year 1 classroom commences with ground works and footings.

March – public consultation meeting with residents, staff and parents to view the proposed plans and talk to the designers and project leaders

Aprilonline planning application made available to the public and a further traffic consultation evening held with residents on April 27th. New classroom for Year 1 is made watertight and internal trades move on site

May – planning application closes and final room layouts agreed. If planning permission is granted, preparatory areas will be set up at the end of June and work is scheduled to commence on July 25th

June – our new Year 1 classroom is completed on time and on budget

July – planning permission for the final phase is approved and work starts on schedule. The summer holiday work comprises refitting the offices and staff room, starting the new small hall and moving fences around to allow for a larger car park and to ensure safe, secure access for visitors

September – all work over the summer is completed on time and the school opens as normal. Contractors start on the foundations for the new building, images of which are here and here

January 2017 – the contractors have had a very good run of winter weather and regular followers of our Facebook page will have seen the rapid progress of the building. With a decent Spring, the project should deliver on time in the early summer.

Easter 2017 – excellent progress; the main classroom block is completed, improvements to the front office are finished off and the soft landscaping starts in May. Westridge Construction Ltd have been wonderful to work with and look like delivering ahead of time and on budget. Our new pupils start in September, meaning we will have three classes in Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2.
